The phenomenon of alienation is one of the most common phenomena in society, to the extent that it is considered as one of the human crises. This phenomenon is formed in an environment where people feel alienated and defeated when they are unable to respond to the needs and changing conditions of the society and reject the culture, beliefs and general values accepted by the members of the society. One of the contemporary scientists who gave a scientific description and analysis of this phenomenon was Melvin Seaman. He organized his theory in five dimensions. In this article, with a descriptive-analytical method, we seek to explore the novel “Adrakaha Al Nisyaan" by Sanna Shaalan, a prolific writer of contemporary Arab literature. The results of the research show that all the axes of Simon's theory are reflected in the behavior of the novel's characters, and the writer was able to flog the authoritarian society of the novel by showing its people as foreigners. In addition, the heroine of the novel is unable to communicate with the world because she is frustrated and oppressed, and this impotence appears in the words that she employs in her writings, where she sows confusion, misery, and brokenness. She lives in a society carrying ideas and standards that differ from her dreams and desires, where love, patriotism and freedom are lacking. The alienation of the characters in the novel is the result of several factors, including tyranny and oppression of the ruling class, depriving the deprived class of effective participation in the ruling social system or even in individual decisions, denying the value of creativity and exaggerating the role of forgery and fabrication. |
