The present study explores the representation of violence in Laki proverbs. The theoretical approach of this article is based on the views of David Metza, Nisbet and Cohen, Parsons' theory of action and Robert Connell's concept of masculinity. Data were collected through review of documents and interviews and analyzed by "qualitative content analysis". Research findings revealed that proverbs that are indicate violent themes or propagator of violence, are categorized in four main categories, Verbal violence, Violence as a tool of domination, Encouragement to violence, and Hostility and militancy. Violence is a factor of intra-group solidarity and as a solution to social problems is the main theme of the research. Violence is represented in various forms: anger, humiliation and insult, discrimination against women, and threats of violence. There is a convergence between violence and male identity and masculinity refers to those who have the ability to use violence. There is a desirable attitude and perception of the phenomenon of violence in these proverbs, So that violence is equal to the sacred religious elements. It seems that such an attitude towards the phenomenon of social violence has an ethnic and tribal structure in which each group has to provide its own security. In such a society, men have enjoyed a privileged position as a fighting force and a provider of security. |
